This summer, our camp season was a great success. At Carkeek Camp, we returned to our traditional upper-field location, which set the stage for our zero-waste initiatives and the popular GaGa Pit. Special guests, including the Snake Lady, Fire Department, Story Time with Friend Owl, Sockeye the Ecology Guy, and Tandy Leather, added extra excitement. The weather was perfect, with no smoke issues, and our exceptional staff introduced new activities like theater and improv, while Tie Dye remained a camper favorite.
In Hans Jensen Camp, the move to a site with larger fields and better river access allowed us to introduce Axe Throwing, featuring a creative “save the whales” theme. Although we missed our traditional archery, the new activity was a hit.
Westcrest Camp was a first-time venture, serving mostly campers under 12. The camp’s enthusiasm from parents and volunteers was extraordinary, and activities like sewing, embroidery, and adventure bingo were particularly popular. We anticipate Westcrest will continue as a Day Camp for younger youth in the future.
Fall Plans and Events
This fall, we’re excited about the Make Your Own Vest Workshops, where clubs can create their own campfire vests. The Teen Service Program will also begin, encouraging teens to work on service projects. Additionally, we’re planning a Council Rally to gear up for the candy sale.
Candy Sale Updates
The 2025 Candy Sale will be our 75th and final year with Brown & Haley. The sale will run from January 24 to February 24, 2025, with an extra week added. We’ll feature new resealable, thermal pouches for easier shipping, and candy will remain priced at $7.50 per box.
Thank you for your continued support.
