About the Retreat

The Teen Leadership Retreat is geared towards teens who want to learn more about leadership and to get involved in Camp Fire and Camp Sealth. The event is not limited to previous participants of Camp Fire programs; we encourage ALL interested teens to attend. Workshops will include individual leadership skills, classic camp activities, and a service project. Be sure to check out our other Teen Leadership throughout the year, based out of both Camp Sealth as well as the greater Seattle area!

This year, check-in will take place between 6pm and 7pm on Friday, April 18th. Camp ends at 12:30 pm on Sunday, April 20th, but we will support teens in leaving early if they would like to be home to observe Sunday’s holiday.

Workshops: Fun and formative!

This retreat features a variety of workshops; some are focused on leadership and service, and others are just for fun. Participate in offerings such as archery, crafts, team-building challenges, games, and job preparation and readiness. There will also be opportunities to socialize and connect with other teens.  We’ll share more about our growing Teen Program, including other ways to get involved through leadership, volunteering, and more. Those applying for a volunteer or paid staff position at Camp Sealth for summer 2025 will also have a chance for a face-to-face interview.

Fun Evening Programs

We’re sure you’ll have at least one chance to make a s’more, sing a camp song, play a game, and of course, visit with your new and old camp friends.

Homework Time

We know that teens are busy! Teens may choose to work on homework during designated times to help you to keep up with school work while getting the most out of the weekend.

Service Project

This year’s focus will be a service project that is close to home. Teens will be working in groups onsite at Camp Sealth to help prepare camp for Spring. This year we will be focusing on invasive species removal and trail maintenance.

Contagious Illnesses

As we navigate the challenges posed by contagious illnesses, we kindly ask for your full cooperation and vigilance. Please take a moment to review the following guidelines to protect the well-being of our community:

Stay Home If You Have Symptoms: If you, your teen, or any member of your family experience any symptoms associated with COVID-19 or other contagious illnesses, such as fever, cough, fatigue, shortness of breath, or loss of taste or smell, we urge you to stay home. We understand your enthusiasm for the event, but it is essential to prioritize health and safety.

Practice Good Hygiene: Frequent hand washing and the use of hand sanitizers will be encouraged throughout the event. Hand sanitizing stations will be available to ensure the accessibility of hygiene resources.

Follow Event Guidelines: Please adhere to any specific guidelines and instructions provided by camp staff, as they are designed to maximize safety. If you begin to show signs and symptoms of any contagious illnesses, we may ask that you be picked up from or leave the event early.

Lodging & Meals

Everyone will stay in heated cabins in the main camp area. Meals and snacks are provided throughout the weekend. Please note on the registration form if you have any special dietary needs.

Transportation

The retreat will be held at Camp Sealth, located on Vashon Island. Driving directions are available on our website. Teens may drive themselves with parental or guardian permission. This form can be found under the UltraCamp registration. Please make a return plan for your teen from Camp Sealth.

Staffing

The retreat is fully staffed by experienced Camp Sealth year-round and summer staff, many of whom have worked with teen leaders in our year-round and summer programs. Teens will be chaperoned throughout the weekend, and rules and standards of behavior are the same as during summer camp.

What to Pack

Make sure to pack weather-appropriate clothes. A hat and rain jacket are recommended for outdoor activities. Bring a warm sleeping bag and any toiletries that you need. A notebook and pen/pencil are also recommended for workshops. Please bring gardening or work gloves if you would like extra protection for our service project. You may bring your cell phone, but it will be collected and kept by camp staff during the retreat (returned before departure). For this reason, you may want to bring a watch.
