Teen Leader Mia, a member of the Camp Fire Seattle Buddhist Temple Group, has been selling candy since the tender age of 4. This year was a monumental year for her and for our council as she sold 2,000 boxes of candy!

“I just love selling candy; one of the highlights is spending so much time with my dad, who I don’t always see a lot of when he’s working. It’s fun meeting new people especially Camp Fire alums. It’s a really good experience and you learn lots of skills including how to manage money and physical stamina, those are long days!”

Once the candy sale was underway, Mia sold her first 1,000 boxes with time to spare. Midway through the sale, she set her sights even higher, aiming to sell 2,000 boxes and in doing so be able to send not only a single child to camp, but also sponsor a friend, making it a more memorable and comfortable experience for someone new to overnight camp.

“I will be volunteering at Carkeek day camp this summer and not going to Camp Sealth as a camper so I wanted to share the experience of overnight camp with someone who has never been before and give back.”

This spring has been a busy one for Camp Fire Groups.

Our annual candy sale was a huge success doubling our sales from last year! Thanks to the incredible efforts of 93 youth who sold 19,606 boxes of candy with 1,575 of them being donated to the USO Northwest. We are grateful to everyone who supported the sale!

More than 75 Camp Fire members joined us at the Seattle Aquarium where they spent the day together taking in all the exhibits and earning a special “Under the Sea” emblem. Nearly 100 members journeyed out to Camp Sealth in March for You & Me Camp where they participated in a Drama Workshop, created sand castles on the beach and cooked pie iron pizzas outdoors.

This spring alone we have welcomed 10 brand new groups and now have groups all over King County from Bainbridge Island to Issaquah, and from Shoreline to Federal Way!

“I am so excited to see the passion and interest in the group programs returning. I can’t wait to continue forging forward with new groups, kids, and opportunities.”

Josie Kies, Director of Community Partnerships

Your Support Goes a Long Way

Proceeds from the Annual Candy Sale go towards supporting group programs throughout the year. In addition to the rewards from the Candy Sale, this includes events such as You & Me Camp and Aquarium Day, the support and staff across the council for groups, and all group program related activities, resources, and curriculum. Without the funds raised from the Candy Sale, and all the hard work of our members, distributors, volunteers, and parents, Camp Fire would not be able to do all that it does every year – and we thank you again for being a part of that mission!

Mia and the customer who bought her 1,000th box of candy!

With just one week left of our Camp Fire Candy Sale, Mia is reaching milestone after milestone. She just reached 1,000 which means she has earned a week of camp! Mia has asked that we donate her week along to our campership fund to help other kids experience summer camp. She’s now on her way to 2,000 boxes, and hopes to add a second week of camp to the scholarship fund!

We asked Mia  to share with us some of her favorite parts of Camp Fire and selling candy – read on and learn how to support Mia!

What do you love about selling candy?

I love spending time with my dad. We talk a lot, make jokes and make up games to play on who will buy next. I like hearing about former Camp Fire members stories, especially the ones about Camp Sealth. I like setting goals and making plans on how to reach them.

What do you like about being in Camp Fire?

I love the community. I like doing fun activities with my friends. I really love going to Camp Sealth.

What have you learned from selling candy?

Even if 50 people in a row say no to you, keep on asking, #53 just might buy 2 of each. Learning about money and how to handle it.  How to count it back. How to set goals, then having to put in the effort to achieve them. Getting to understand people more. You can’t judge who will buy candy by the way they look.  Everybody will buy Camp Fire Candy and everybody says no to buying Camp Fire Candy.”

Why do you want to send another kid to Camp Sealth?

I love Camp Sealth!!!!!  I really want to be a CIT (Counselor-In-Training) this year and plan on doing that at the summer day camps.  So I want someone else to be able to experience all the great things at camp that might not be able to because their family can’t afford it.

Help Mia Reach Her Goal!

Support Mia by purchasing on the online store and adding a note at checkout to  “get Mia to 2000!” or by going to one of her site sales:

Support Our Camp Fire Youth

January 27 – February 20, 2023

Our sellers are back in action for the 2023 Camp Fire Candy Fundraiser! Find your favorites – Creamy Smooth Mint Patties, Almond Caramel Clusters, Almond Roca, and P-Nuttles – back in stock. Every box or jar of candy purchased (or donated to the USO!) will directly support our youth, Camp Fire groups, and Camp Fire council. You can support youth at site sales, or purchase candy online!

New for 2023!

$6 per Box or Jar

While we’ve held steady at $5 for many years, the cost of ingredients and production necessitates an increase to $6. We are grateful to our manufacturers for their support and ingenuity to keep costs low up until this point, and thank you for your understanding as we make this adjustment.

Welcome Back, Site Sales!

You will once again be able to visit our Camp Fire youth at site sales around the region! View their locations on our map below, and view the notes to see when you can find our youth there. If you are making a special trip for Camp Fire candy, aim to arrive at the beginning of a window as youth often sell out of candy or need to escape the cold and may not be there through the final minute of their slot.

Thank you for your support!

This equates to over $132,000 raised for Camp Fire programs! The Camp Fire office shipped a whopping 675 candy-filled packages this year to locations all over the United States!
